Teresa Murphy has been a yogi most of her life without even knowing it! From the first official yoga class at the age of fourteen, yoga became a predominant part of her life. Following a serious illness and a back injury, Teresa committed wholeheartedly to the practice of yoga over 20 years ago and decided to go to an Ashram in India to obtain her teacher training qualification from the Masters of Yoga at the Yoga Vidya Dham Gurukul Nasik (Yoga University), India. There, she immersed herself in the discipline of yoga and its philosophy and continues that journey to this day.
Teresa believes it is the duty of a yoga teacher to actively participate in upgrading and refining their own skills and deepening their practice. In doing so, this benefits Teresa’s students and those in her Yoga Sacred Space Yoga Teacher Training Program.
Over the years Teresa has returned to Mysore, India, to study with the renowned Pattabi Jois, to further her practice and teaching skills. She has spent time in Los Angeles for further training at UCLA Medical Center’s Yoga Institute Training Course, studying the therapeutic value of yoga as a remedy for anxiety and depression. Attended David Swenson’s 40-hour certified teacher training in the fundamentals of teaching Astanga Yoga and hands-on adjustments. Training courses with Kathryn Budig, author and founder of ‘Aim True Yoga’, Bryan Kest of Power Yoga- Los Angeles and has specialised in the sublime ‘Bramha Flow’ created by Bryan.
On Teresa’s personal yoga journey she has embarked on 50-hour Kirtan training with Govindas Bhakti Yoga Shala, Kirtan being a deep profound life-changing experience for her. Teresa was also blessed and honoured to spend three days training on meditation with His Holiness The Dalai Lama which she felt was the turning point in her spiritual path, where it began to deepen.
Yoga Sacred Space Teacher Training Program is a 200-hour, Yoga Alliance Certified course, and she has successfully certified numerous students from Ireland, the United States, Switzerland and Spain. Many of her students have returned to her for additional training; they actively teach, and some have opened their own studios. It is Teresa’s goal to train her teachers to become not just teachers of yoga, but Masters of Yoga. Her rigorous training course and standards have set the bar high. This ensures her teachers are highly qualified and Yoga Alliance Certified. Teresa was featured in a segment on RTE 2’s The Health Squad and in several articles in yoga periodicals, such as Yoga Journal.
